Manny SD Lopez shared his thoughts and insights as Guest Speaker in a Public Consultation and Seminar on People's Initiative this Friday, September 27, 2024 at the Great Eastern Hotel, Diliman, Quezon City. The multi-sectoral forum was organized by Mrs. Corazon T. Polinag as Lead Convenor, and Bishop Nilo Tayag, Capt. Reynaldo I. Valeros and Atty. Jose Ibarra as Co-Convenors.

The centerpiece of his speech is to amend RA 6735 " The People's Initiative and Referendum Act " to make it a functional direct democracy tool. PI will enable empowered citizens and NGOs to propose legislations, amend or repeal laws that are inconsistent with public interest and welfare. Reverting the power back to the people will enable us to effect real change and reform, undelivered by more than a century of experience with representative democracy.
